Popular activist and Peter Obi ally, Aisha Yesufu, has withdrawn from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial race for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), weeks after declaring interest in the contest.
Yesufu had on May 6 announced her ambition to represent the FCT in the Senate under the platform of the NDC following her defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Her sudden withdrawal has sparked fresh political conversations within opposition circles ahead of the 2027 general elections, though she is yet to publicly disclose detailed reasons for stepping down from the race.
The outspoken activist, widely known for her advocacy on governance, accountability and the Bring Back Our Girls campaign, remains a prominent voice in Nigeria’s political landscape and a strong supporter of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
