The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has distanced the Fulani community from criminal elements terrorising parts of the country, insisting that a few armed groups should not define millions of law-abiding Fulani citizens.
The association said the estimated 30,000 militants and bandits operating across Nigeria do not represent the over 14.5 million Fulani people living peacefully and contributing to national development.
MACBAN stressed that the Fulani community should not be unfairly profiled or collectively blamed for insecurity, noting that the vast majority of Fulani Nigerians are honest herders, farmers, traders and citizens committed to peaceful coexistence.
The group called for justice, fairness and national unity in addressing security challenges, urging authorities and the public to isolate criminals without ethnic or tribal generalisation.
The association further reaffirmed its support for efforts aimed at restoring peace and security across the country while encouraging dialogue and cooperation among all communities.
