Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has inaugurated a new Governing Council for the Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero (AFUSTA), charging its members to restore stability and rebuild the institution following a sweeping overhaul of its leadership.
The inauguration, held at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, comes days after the state government dissolved the university’s former Governing Council, removed the Vice-Chancellor, two Deputy Vice-Chancellors and other key management officials in a major restructuring aimed at repositioning the institution.
Governor Idris said the newly constituted Council was carefully selected to steer AFUSTA towards academic excellence, transparency and effective administration.
Describing AFUSTA as Kebbi State’s pioneering university, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the institution through sustained government support.
He expressed confidence in the leadership of the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Muhammad Abubakar Kaoje, noting that his experience as the university’s pioneer Vice-Chancellor makes him well-suited to lead the reform process.
The governor urged the Council to work closely with the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mungadi, and the university management to restore confidence and accelerate the institution’s growth.
Responding on behalf of the Council, Professor Kaoje thanked Governor Idris for the confidence reposed in them and pledged that members would discharge their responsibilities with diligence, integrity and unwavering commitment.
He also assured the governor that the Council would maintain regular engagement with the state government to ensure the successful implementation of its mandate.
Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, who presented the Council members, said the appointments reflected broad stakeholder representation, bringing together professionals from diverse backgrounds with the expertise required to move the university forward.
