… Accuses judiciary of partisanship

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has disclosed that today’s election is the freest ever conducted in the state, lamenting that interference on election processes by judiciary would not augur well for the country.
The governor made the statement during an inspection visit to Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) Headquarters.
He challenged that “Today’s election that has taken place in all the 44 local government areas and 484 wards is the freest ever conducted in Kano.
“This has to do with the commitment of good people of the state, their zeal and support to ensure they elect people that have integrity, people that are committed in providing dividends of democracy especially in the areas of health, social development, infrastructure among others.
“As a state governor, I will make sure they get all the necessary support so that they serve their people very well,” he assured.
In a statement issued by the governor’s spokesman Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor stated that “Let me also use this opportunity to humbly appeal to the judiciary, that we in government we have full respect for them , they are the last hope for the common man, when they become partisan, Nigeria will end, because if there is no justice, there will be no more peace in this country.
“I’m appealing to our respected judiciary members, judges as well as their supporting staff to continue to be neutral when it comes to elections in this country,” he appealled.
He lamented that some judges are used to scuttle the interest of the people especially in Kano State.
He maintained that his administration is doing it best to ensure cordial relationship with all constituted authorities.
“Nigeria is for all of us, when it comes to elections everybody should join hands to ensure the survival of democracy. Impunity will not do good for this country, when it comes to elections there shouldn’t be any impunity , we should set politics aside, we should ensure that what people want is what we give them.
Governor Yusuf added that his administration would continue to agitate for the survival of democracy in Nigeria, stressing that “not only on this election, also in future election, we will make sure it is free and fair elections as far as Kano State is concerned.
“Kano State government is the only administration under the platform of the NNPP across the country,” he noted, adding that the party should not be subjected to intimidation.
“Kano people are peace loving citizens”, he said, stressing that when they are pushed, and they retaliate the country would be in fire.
He then expressed dismay over the attitude of the APC in trying to stop and threaten people’s mandate in the state, stressing that he wishes they participated in election in order to test their weight, which is very low.
During the inspection visit, Governor Yusuf met with members of the Forum of State Independent Electoral Commission of Nigeria (FOSIECON) led by Chairman of Sokoto State Independent Electoral Commission, Alhaji Sulaiman Aliyu were he said “I’m very much delighted to have you here, I never expected this kind of solidarity not only to the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) but to the entire people of Kano State.
“This solidarity will go along way to sustain democracy in Nigeria, it has never happened. All chairmen of electoral commissions from different states accross different regions to come together to ensure free and fair elections in Kano, it has never happened, so we thank you so much,” he added.
The governor thanked the KANSIEC chairman and his supporting staff for conducting the election in a peaceful manner, adding that security agencies pro-activeness has added weight to the polls.
