In a groundbreaking move to fortify peace and security across Katsina State, 190 women from four local government areas have been equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to be key peacebuilders.
The initiative, part of the Women Peace and Security (WPS) program, was driven by Mercy Corps in partnership with the Katsina State Government, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD).
Held over two days, the event brought together women from Batsari, Jibiya, Katsina, and Kankara, focusing on the vital role of women in community peacebuilding. The participants were encouraged to be confident, vocal, and proactive in addressing security challenges in their communities.
Lynda Nkechi Emmanuel, Senior Programme Officer at Mercy Corps, highlighted the crucial role women play in fostering peace, urging the empowered participants to take ownership of the WPS initiative and drive change in their communities.
Katsina’s Commissioner for Women’s Affairs, Hadiza Yar’adua, lauded the program’s impact, promising continued government support to ensure women are at the forefront of peace and security efforts.
This initiative marks a significant stride in empowering women to lead in the promotion of lasting peace and stability in Katsina State.
