The Senior Technical Assistant on Print and Digital Communications to Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, Abdurrahman Ahmed Bundi, has emerged winner of the Digital Communication category at the prestigious 2026 National Spokesperson Awards (NSAwards), cementing his reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading government communicators.
Bundi received notification of the national honour in a letter dated July 13, while overseeing the editorial production of Governor Zulum’s flagship publication, “The 7th Verdict.”
His victory followed an intensely competitive selection process that organisers described as one of the toughest in the history of the awards.
Out of 171 nominations, only 91 entries passed the initial screening before being assessed for measurable impact, innovation, media visibility and verifiable evidence. The contest was eventually narrowed to 42 finalists across 16 categories, with Bundi edging out strong competitors, including UNILORIN TV, to claim the Digital Communication prize.
The seven-member jury, chaired by Prof. Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi, evaluated finalists based on four key benchmarks—impact, innovation, reach and quality of evidence.
Organised by Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR), publishers of PRNigeria, Economic Confidential and Spokespersons Digest, the National Spokesperson Awards recognise excellence in strategic communication, media relations and public engagement across Nigeria.
Bundi’s latest triumph adds to a growing list of accolades earned by Governor Zulum’s media team. Since his appointment as Senior Technical Assistant on Print and Digital Communications in January 2025, he has continued to drive the administration’s digital communication strategy while building on years of experience in government media management.
Before assuming his current role, Bundi served as Special Assistant on New Media (2019–2023) and Senior Special Assistant on New Media (2023–2025). He had also previously received honours on behalf of the Borno State Governor’s Media Team at the 2023 Spokespersons’ Communication Awards, reinforcing his growing profile as an influential voice in Nigeria’s public communication landscape.
