Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has restated that sustainable development cannot thrive in the absence of peace and security, warning that no society can achieve meaningful progress without a stable and safe environment.
Governor Buni made the assertion through the Acting Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Mohammed Goje, while receiving two Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) from the North-East Geo-Political Zone on a courtesy visit to the Government House, Damaturu.
Describing the visit as timely and significant, the governor said it reflects the renewed commitment of the Inspector-General of Police and the Nigeria Police Force toward strengthening national security, enhancing operational efficiency, and deepening collaboration with state governments.
He stressed that security remains the bedrock of development, noting that his administration has consistently prioritised the safety and welfare of citizens as a core governance responsibility.
“Without peace, there won’t be meaningful development. Lasting peace, economic growth, and social progress can only thrive in an environment of safety and stability,” Governor Buni stated.
The governor also commended the Inspector-General of Police and officers of the Nigeria Police Force for their sacrifices and commitment to maintaining unity, peace, and stability across the country.
According to him, the Yobe State Government has continued to strengthen its partnership with security agencies through logistical support, improved infrastructure, and coordinated operational assistance aimed at boosting security effectiveness.
Governor Buni reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to sustain support for security agencies in order to consolidate gains recorded in the fight against insecurity and ensure lasting peace across the state.
Earlier in his remarks, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the North-East, DIG Zakaria Fera, commended the Yobe State Government for its consistent backing of security operations.
He expressed optimism that ongoing joint efforts would further enhance stability in the region, assuring that the Nigeria Police Force remains fully committed to intensifying operations against criminal elements.
“Yobe people have suffered enough, and we say enough is enough. We are determined to take the battle to criminals and ensure citizens enjoy peace and security,” the DIG declared.
The delegation also included DIG in charge of Research and Planning, Ibrahim Zango, the Yobe State Commissioner of Police, and other senior officers, while top government officials present at the meeting included the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly (represented), Head of Service, Commissioners, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, and Permanent Secretaries, among others.
