FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has stirred political reactions with a blunt remark about his role in Nigeria’s opposition politics, declaring that part of his job is to ensure opposition figures Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi “do not feel well” and are left with high blood pressure.
Wike made the statement in a politically charged remark, apparently referring to his determination to challenge the opposition and frustrate its political calculations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former Rivers State governor, known for his outspoken political style, has remained a prominent figure in the unfolding power struggle between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition forces.
His reference to Atiku and Obi—two leading opposition figures—has already attracted attention, with the statement likely to fuel further debate over the increasingly fierce political contest ahead of 2027.
Wike’s comment reflects the intensity of the political battle expected to dominate the coming election season, as parties and their major figures position themselves for what could be one of Nigeria’s most closely watched electoral contests.
