Wamakko’s Political Bridge: How Magatakarda Unites Sokoto Behind Tinubu, APC

Borno State Government

By Abdullahi Inuwa

……By turning political loyalty into grassroots mobilisation and development, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko and Governor Ahmed Aliyu are strengthening the APC’s foothold across Sokoto State.

In Sokoto State, the political influence of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, popularly known as Magatakarda, continues to reverberate across the state as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consolidates its support base and rallies citizens behind the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Wamakko, a former governor of Sokoto State and currently a leading APC figure, has remained a central force in the state’s political equation. His ability to mobilise party supporters, maintain grassroots structures and bring political actors together has positioned him as one of the influential voices shaping the direction of the APC in Sokoto.

At the centre of the political movement is a message of unity: that Sokoto can play a stronger role in supporting the Federal Government while simultaneously pursuing development at the state and local levels.

Under the political leadership associated with Wamakko, Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration has continued to project the APC as a party capable of combining political organisation with visible development projects.

The partnership between the governor and the Wamakko political structure has also become an important factor in strengthening the party across the state. Supporters argue that the relationship has created a broader platform for mobilising communities, party leaders, youths and other stakeholders around the APC.

Tinubu Gets Stronger Backing From Sokoto

One of the most significant features of the political movement is the growing emphasis on support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The APC leadership in Sokoto has consistently presented support for Tinubu as part of a broader commitment to the party’s national agenda. Wamakko’s influence among party members has helped give this campaign a strong grassroots character, with supporters taking the message of APC unity to communities across the state.

For many party loyalists, the argument is straightforward: a united APC in Sokoto can provide stronger political backing for Tinubu while also creating opportunities for the state to benefit from federal programmes and partnerships.

Wamakko’s political network, built over years of public service and party mobilisation, remains an important vehicle for that objective.

Ahmed Aliyu and the Development Push

While politics has remained a major component of the APC’s activities, Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration has also placed emphasis on infrastructure and other development initiatives across Sokoto State.

Among the areas receiving attention are Wamakko Local Government Area and other parts of the state, where the administration has embarked on construction and rehabilitation projects.

The projects, according to supporters of the government, are intended to address infrastructure gaps, improve public facilities and bring government presence closer to residents.

The political significance of such projects is equally important. In Nigerian politics, grassroots support is often strengthened when citizens can directly see and feel the impact of government policies.

This has made roads, public buildings, educational facilities, healthcare infrastructure and other community projects important instruments of engagement between government and the people.

In Wamakko Local Government Area, where Senator Wamakko enjoys a strong political base, development projects have attracted particular attention.

The governor’s administration has also continued to highlight projects in different parts of Sokoto, portraying them as evidence of its commitment to balanced development rather than concentrating government attention in a few locations.

Democracy Beyond Sokoto

Another dimension of Wamakko’s political influence is his continued participation in national politics.

As a senior APC figure, his political activities extend beyond Sokoto, giving the state a voice within the broader structure of the ruling party.

His supporters describe this as an example of political leadership that combines local mobilisation with national engagement.

They argue that Sokoto’s interests are better served when its political leaders maintain strong relationships with decision-makers at the federal level while remaining connected to communities at home.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu has similarly continued to operate within this political framework, presenting his administration as part of the APC’s wider programme of governance.

A New Political Calculation

The emerging political picture in Sokoto is therefore about more than party slogans. It is increasingly a contest over who can build the strongest grassroots structure, deliver visible development and maintain political unity ahead of future elections.

Wamakko’s role in bringing APC supporters together has made him a major figure in that calculation.

For the party, the objective is clear: maintain unity, strengthen grassroots structures and demonstrate that political loyalty can be matched with effective governance.

For Governor Ahmed Aliyu, the challenge is to ensure that ongoing projects translate into tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary citizens.

And for President Tinubu, strong support from a politically strategic state such as Sokoto could prove significant as the APC continues to consolidate its presence in the North-West.

Ultimately, the strength of the APC in Sokoto will not be determined by political rallies alone. It will depend on the ability of its leaders to keep their supporters united, deliver credible governance and convince citizens that the party’s programmes can improve their daily lives.

With Magatakarda Wamakko providing influential political leadership and Governor Ahmed Aliyu pushing development projects across the state, the APC appears determined to turn its Sokoto structure into a formidable political force.

The coming months will reveal whether that combination of political mobilisation, grassroots organisation and visible development can translate into an even stronger APC presence in Sokoto and deeper support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
