ADC Suffers Major Setback as Thousands Dump Party for APC in Sokoto

Borno State Government

By Abdullahi Inuwa

….Thousands of ADC supporters have crossed over to the APC in Goronyo, delivering a fresh political boost to the ruling party ahead of future elections.

The mass defection, involving supporters largely from Gorau Town in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State, took place during a colourful reception organised in Gorau/Takakume Ward.

The development has further strengthened the APC’s political foothold in the Sokoto East Senatorial District, with party leaders describing the influx as a sign of growing confidence in the ruling party.

Welcoming the new members, APC Zonal Vice Chairman for Sokoto East, Alhaji Muhammad Musa Sarkin Alaru, assured the defectors of equal treatment and opportunities within the party.

He commended Alhaji Hussaini N. Umar Gorau, Senior Special Assistant, for his efforts toward improving the welfare of residents and strengthening the APC at the grassroots.

Speaking at the ceremony, Alhaji Hussaini N. Umar Gorau attributed the growing support for the APC to what he described as the people-oriented policies and development initiatives of Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto and Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.

He said government interventions in infrastructure, social development and security had continued to win the confidence of residents, particularly in rural communities.

According to him, intensified efforts to confront banditry and improve security across the state had also contributed to renewed confidence in government.

The APC Chairman in Goronyo Local Government, Alhaji Sa’idu Muhammad Goronyo, charged the new entrants to remain committed to the party and contribute actively to its growth.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Nasiru Mukhtar Gorau said the decision to abandon the ADC was influenced by the APC-led administration’s performance in infrastructure and the provision of basic social amenities.

He pledged the commitment of the new members to the APC and promised that they would work with other party stakeholders to strengthen its grassroots structure.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of awards to Minister of State for Works, Barrister Bello Muhammad Goronyo; Alhaji Hussaini N. Umar Gorau; and APC Senatorial Candidate for Sokoto East, Alhaji Umar Ajiya.

The recipients were honoured for their contributions to the development of Goronyo and the wider Sokoto East Senatorial District.

The latest political realignment comes as parties intensify efforts to consolidate their grassroots structures, with the APC appearing to gain fresh momentum in Goronyo following the mass entry of former ADC supporters.
