More Than 240km of Urban, Rural Roads Covered; 200 Electric Tricycles Launched, Target 500— Gov Radda

Vice-President Kashim Shettima, has commissioned 11.2 kilometres of major road projects and launched 32 mass transit vehicles as part of efforts by the Katsina State Government to modernise urban infrastructure and public transportation.
The Vice-President commissioned the projects and cut the commissioning plaque during his one-day official visit to Katsina State.
The commissioned projects comprise the dualised 4.80-kilometre Kofar Sauri–Central Mosque Roundabout Road, the dualised 2.40-kilometre Central Police Station Junction–Kofar Kaura Underpass Road and the newly constructed 4.00-kilometre Filin Polo–Ring Road.

The Vice-President also launched 30 CNG hybrid buses and 200 Phase I electric tricycles at the Old Ministry of Works, marking a major step in the State Government’s plan to provide cleaner, more efficient and accessible public transportation.
Earlier In his address, Governor Radda said the commissioning marked a significant milestone in his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, urban renewal and the modernisation of public transportation.
According to him, the projects were designed to improve connectivity, ease traffic congestion, enhance road safety and create an enabling environment for investment, productivity and an improved quality of life.

“Our administration recognises that an efficient road network is fundamental to economic growth, urban development and social progress. Accordingly, we have continued to invest in strategic road infrastructure designed to improve connectivity, ease traffic congestion, enhance road safety and facilitate the movement of people and goods,” Radda said.
The Governor said the three commissioned roads formed part of a broader urban renewal network designed to improve traffic circulation, reduce travel time and strengthen connectivity across Katsina metropolis.
He recalled that the Central Mosque Roundabout–Water Board Roundabout Road was commissioned in October 2025, while President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, commissioned the Eastern Bypass Road in May 2025.
Radda explained that the projects were part of 12 major urban renewal road projects being implemented within Katsina metropolis, stressing that his administration’s approach was to develop an integrated and interconnected road network rather than isolated roads.

“Our development philosophy is to establish an integrated and interconnected road network rather than undertake isolated projects. This approach ensures that individual roads complement one another and collectively improve accessibility across the metropolis,” he said.
He added that the same approach was being extended to Daura and Funtua to ensure that urban renewal and infrastructure development reached the three senatorial zones of the State.
Beyond the urban centres, Radda disclosed that more than 240 kilometres of urban and rural roads had so far been covered through ongoing infrastructure interventions across the State.
He said the investments were aimed at connecting communities to markets, schools and healthcare facilities, while reducing transportation difficulties and creating better conditions for agriculture, commerce and private-sector investment.

On public transportation, Governor Radda said the State was launching a fleet of hybrid buses incorporating electric, diesel and CNG technologies to provide more convenient and efficient mobility for residents.
He said the buses would serve Katsina, Daura and Funtua, thereby extending the benefits of modern public transportation across the three senatorial districts.
“The intended beneficiaries include students, workers, traders and members of the general public who depend on affordable and reliable transportation for their daily activities,” he said.
Radda disclosed that three supporting facilities had been established, comprising a main terminal and workshop in Katsina, as well as mini-terminal stations in Daura and Funtua.
He added that 40 modern bus stops were being provided across the three selected Local Government Areas, with facilities including Wi-Fi and solar inverter systems to improve passenger convenience.
The Governor stressed that effective public transportation required not only vehicles but also functional terminals, maintenance facilities, passenger infrastructure and reliable operational arrangements.
Radda also announced the launch of 200 electric tricycles as part of the State’s broader programme to deploy 500 electric Keke EVs across Katsina.
He said the initiative would promote cleaner and more efficient mobility while creating opportunities for transport operators, young people, technicians and businesses within the emerging electric mobility sector.
“The introduction of electric tricycles will also create opportunities for the development of charging infrastructure, vehicle maintenance services, technical training and other supporting enterprises,” the Governor said.
He described the approach as “From Energy Transition to Economic Transformation,” explaining that the objective was not merely to introduce new vehicle technologies but to develop a modern transportation ecosystem capable of creating jobs, supporting businesses and improving mobility.
“By progressively integrating electric mobility, CNG technology and conventional transport infrastructure, Katsina State is taking practical steps towards a more diversified, efficient and modern public transportation system,” he said.
Governor Radda assured that his administration would continue to emphasise sustainability, accountability, proper maintenance and effective management of the infrastructure and transportation investments.
He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the Federal Government for their support for infrastructure development and economic growth in Katsina State.
Radda also commended the Vice-President for honouring the invitation and supporting the State’s development aspirations.
He thanked the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport, relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies, contractors, consultants, members of the State Executive Council and Legislature, as well as other stakeholders who contributed to the delivery of the projects.
The Governor equally appreciated the people of Katsina State for their patience, cooperation and understanding throughout the construction processes.
He said the interventions reflected his administration’s broader vision of building a Katsina State where communities were better connected, businesses could thrive, citizens enjoyed improved mobility and development opportunities were accessible across the State.
The event was attended by Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura; former Governor of Sokoto State, Brigadier General Ahmed Mohammed Daku (rtd.); former Governor of Borno State, Colonel Abdulmumini Aminu (rtd.); Senator Muntari Dandutse; Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua; Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Hajiya Aisha Rimi; and Minister of Creative Economy, Hajiya Hannatu Musawa, members of the Katsina State Executive Council; among other dignitaries.
