Troops Kill Two Terrorists, Rescue 32 Kidnap Victims in Katsina Offensive

Borno State Government

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 17 Brigade, working alongside operatives of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, have neutralised two terrorists, rescued 32 kidnapped victims, and recovered a cache of weapons and 10 motorcycles during a major offensive operation in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The operation was part of the second phase of ongoing clearance missions targeting the criminal network of notorious terrorist kingpin, Muhammadu Filani, whose activities have terrorised communities across Musawa, Matazu, and Kankia local government areas.

Security sources disclosed that the troops stormed the terrorists’ enclave on the outskirts of Dikawa village on May 8, where they encountered fierce resistance from armed bandits positioned behind rocky formations.

A gun battle reportedly ensued as troops advanced on the hideout, leading to the killing of two terrorists while others fled into surrounding forests with suspected gunshot wounds.

During the operation, security forces rescued 32 kidnapped victims held captive by the terrorists and recovered several weapons as well as 10 motorcycles believed to have been used for criminal operations.

Military sources described the operation as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist and bandit camps across Katsina State and restore security to affected communities.

Troops have continued aggressive clearance operations and patrols across the North-West as part of sustained efforts to flush out criminal elements and secure rural communities from attacks and abductions.
