Troops Foil Suspected Terror Plot, Recover Cache of Explosives in Yobe

Borno State Government

Troops of the Headquarters 27 Task Force Brigade, Buni Gari, have recovered a cache of deadly explosive devices during a routine patrol operation in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, dealing another blow to suspected ISWAP/JAS terrorists operating in the North-East.

Security sources revealed that the operation was carried out around 1:00 p.m. on May 22 after intelligence reports indicated the movement of suspected terrorists around the Magza general area.

On sighting the advancing troops, the insurgents reportedly fled the location before contact could be established.

However, during a follow-up search and exploitation exercise, soldiers uncovered four 40mm Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) bombs, one 81mm bomb, and four 60mm bombs suspected to have been abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team immediately swept the area to detect and neutralise any hidden explosive threats, ensuring the safety of both troops and residents.

Military sources confirmed that the recovered explosives are now in military custody for further action and investigation.

Authorities also reaffirmed the military’s commitment to sustained aggressive patrols and clearance operations aimed at restricting terrorist movement and preventing attacks across the North-East theatre.
