Troops Crush Terrorist Ambush in Sokoto, Recover AK-47s, Motorcycles, Rustled Cattle

Borno State Government

SOKOTO — Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have dealt a major blow to terrorists operating in Sokoto State, neutralising several fighters and recovering weapons, motorcycles and rustled livestock following a fierce encounter in Rabah Local Government Area.

The operation followed credible intelligence indicating that suspected terrorists were moving through the Maikujera general area with livestock believed to have been stolen from communities.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the troops moved to intercept the group. But as they advanced towards the area, the terrorists reportedly attempted to spring an ambush on the soldiers.

The troops, however, responded with superior firepower, overwhelming the attackers and neutralising several of them.

Unable to withstand the troops’ counter-offensive, the surviving terrorists reportedly abandoned their position and escaped into the surrounding bush as soldiers continued their advance.

A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of AK-47 rifles, motorcycles suspected to have been used by the terrorists, and the rustled livestock.

Security forces have maintained a strong presence across the Rabah and Maikujera axis following the operation, with the area currently reported to be calm.

Troops have also intensified routine patrols and security operations in surrounding communities as part of efforts to prevent further attacks, disrupt terrorist movements and protect residents and their property.

The latest operation underscores the military’s continued push to deny terrorist groups freedom of movement and dismantle their networks across the North-West.
