Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have arrested a suspected notorious bandit during a snap checkpoint operation in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, recovering an AK-47 rifle magazine, mobile phones, and incriminating photographs allegedly linked to criminal activities.
Security sources disclosed that the suspect, identified as Ibrahim Adamu, 32, was apprehended at about 6:04 p.m. on May 8 by troops of the 2 Battalion deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Dogon Dawa.
According to the sources, the troops had mounted a snap roadblock at the Damari area of Birnin Gwari when they intercepted the suspect riding a motorcycle along the route.
A search conducted on the suspect reportedly led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle magazine, three mobile phones, Indian hemp, and other personal belongings.
“During the search, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle magazine, three mobile phones, Indian hemp and other personal belongings from the suspect,” a security source revealed.
Military sources further disclosed that preliminary checks carried out on the suspect’s mobile phones uncovered several incriminating photographs allegedly showing him dressed in military-style camouflage and posing with a PKT machine gun alongside other suspected bandits.
The discovery reportedly heightened suspicion about the suspect’s alleged involvement in armed banditry and criminal networks operating within the North-West region.
Security officials said the suspect and all recovered exhibits were immediately transferred to the battalion headquarters for detailed investigation and further necessary action.
The arrest is seen as another breakthrough in ongoing military operations targeting armed bandits, kidnappers, and criminal gangs terrorizing communities across Kaduna and other parts of the North-West.
Military authorities noted that although the security situation within the axis remains relatively calm, the environment is still highly unpredictable due to the activities of fleeing criminal elements.
Troops have consequently intensified surveillance operations, snap checkpoints, intelligence gathering, and patrols across strategic locations in the area to prevent attacks and track down suspected criminals.
Operation Fansan Yamma has sustained aggressive offensives against bandit enclaves across the North-West in recent months, leading to the arrest and neutralisation of several suspected terrorists and criminal collaborators.
Security analysts believe intelligence-led operations and random checkpoint patrols are increasingly disrupting the movement of armed groups and restricting the supply of weapons and logistics to criminal networks in the region.
Residents of Birnin Gwari and surrounding communities have repeatedly called for sustained military presence, as the area remains one of the flashpoints of banditry, kidnapping, and rural attacks in Kaduna State.
Authorities say investigations into the suspect’s activities and possible links to armed groups are ongoing.
