President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for another five-year term, effective Friday, February 27, 2026.
The renewal cements Audi’s leadership at the helm of the paramilitary agency, where he first assumed office in 2021 following his appointment by former President Muhammadu Buhari. His initial tenure officially wound up last Friday amid activities marking the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.
With the fresh mandate, Audi is expected to resume duties on Monday, armed with what the Presidency described as a renewed charge to strengthen and reposition the Corps for greater impact in Nigeria’s evolving security architecture.
President Tinubu urged the NSCDC boss to deepen reforms and enhance operational efficiency, especially as the Nigeria Police refocus efforts on combating banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism nationwide.
Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Audi’s academic and professional journey reflects a steady rise through dedication and scholarship.
He obtained a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate from Teachers’ College, Jengre, Plateau State, in 1987, and later earned a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) from the College of Education, Akwanga, in 1992. He proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he bagged a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical and Health Education in 1995.
Driven by continuous learning, Audi secured a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Calabar in 2001, a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University in 2014, and a Master’s in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University in 2019.
He joined the NSCDC as a volunteer in November 1996 and, after completing his basic officer training in 1997, was deployed as a Divisional Officer in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. By 2007, he had risen to the rank of Commandant and was posted to the Office of the Commandant-General at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja.
Audi’s reappointment signals continuity in leadership at the NSCDC as the Tinubu administration intensifies efforts to bolster internal security and safeguard critical national assets.
