A Finnish court in Päijät-Häme has sentenced Simon Ekpa, a Nigerian-Finnish citizen and self-proclaimed leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to prison over terrorist propaganda.

Ekpa, found guilty of inciting violence through social media in 2021, used his platforms to fuel unrest in Nigeria’s southeast region.

Despite previous arrests and global outcry, Ekpa continued to advocate violence, even calling for a boycott of Nigeria’s 2023 elections.

His conviction marks a critical step in addressing global terrorism and holding propagators accountable.

Four others linked to his activities were also arrested in Finland for terrorism-related offenses.
