President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday held a crucial closed-door meeting with Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state, Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, in what observers describe as a major step toward sustaining Gombe’s development trajectory.
The high-level meeting, which took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, focused on strategies for consolidating the gains recorded under Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s administration and ensuring continuity of key reforms and development programmes in the state.
A significant highlight of the engagement was Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s formal presentation of Dr. Gwamna to President Tinubu as the APC governorship candidate for Gombe State ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Political analysts view the presentation as a strong endorsement of continuity within the ruling party and a signal of APC’s determination to preserve the developmental momentum achieved in Gombe over the years.
Sources familiar with the discussions said the talks centered on strengthening governance, expanding economic opportunities, and deepening reforms aimed at positioning Gombe as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing states.
Under Governor Inuwa Yahaya, Gombe has attracted praise for investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, security, and public sector reforms, earning a reputation as a model of purposeful governance.
The meeting also underscored the commitment of both national and state APC leadership to ensuring a seamless transition built on stability, continuity, and effective leadership.
Dr. Gwamna, who has repeatedly pledged to build on the achievements of the current administration, is expected to champion policies geared toward economic growth, job creation, and improved social welfare if elected.
The Aso Rock meeting is widely seen as a strategic move by the APC to strengthen party unity and chart a clear path for the future of Gombe State as preparations for the next phase of leadership gather momentum.
“The focus remains on sustaining development, deepening reforms, and creating greater opportunities for the people of Gombe State,” a party source said after the meeting.
