Vice President Kashim Shettima has directed the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to remain strictly apolitical and uphold transparency, integrity, and accountability in carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.
Shettima gave the charge on Friday while receiving a delegation of the bureau led by its Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Usman Bello, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The Vice President warned the agency against being dragged into controversies, urging its leadership to maintain independence and professionalism in the discharge of its duties.
“Remain steadfast. Be as apolitical as humanly possible and do your job as much as you can,” Shettima told the delegation.
He also urged the bureau to sustain and strengthen its digitisation reforms, stressing that Nigeria must align with global standards by enabling public officials to declare assets and liabilities electronically from any location.
According to him, the digitisation process would eliminate delays, reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks associated with paper documentation, and improve compliance monitoring.
“There is no need for public officials thronging your offices trying to fill in some forms. And you can take them to task, since it has been digitised. You expect everyone to play by the rules,” the Vice President stated.
Shettima further noted that the CCB has a critical role to play in projecting a positive image for Nigeria, especially in the area of accountability and anti-corruption reforms.
Earlier, the CCB Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Bello, thanked President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Shettima for appointing a new leadership team for the bureau and increasing its budgetary allocation.
He disclosed that the agency had embarked on several reforms, including the digitisation of its operations, increased verification exercises, investigations, and prosecution of cases.
According to Bello, the bureau has also recorded recoveries linked to anti-corruption investigations both within Nigeria and abroad, including in London.
The CCB chairman assured the Presidency that the bureau would continue to intensify the anti-corruption fight if adequately supported and empowered by the Federal Government.
The meeting comes amid renewed efforts by the Tinubu administration to strengthen public sector accountability and modernise governance institutions through technology-driven reforms.
