Kebbi State has taken a major step to ease transportation hardship with the commissioning of 50 brand-new mass transit buses aimed at improving mobility within and beyond the state.
The 18-seater buses were unveiled at the newly constructed Ultra-Modern Park in Birnin Kebbi by the Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, Hayatuddeen Bawa.
Bawa said the initiative is designed to cushion the burden of travel on residents, especially for long-distance journeys, noting that Kebbi had previously lagged behind other North-West states in providing structured mass transit services.
He praised Governor Nasir Idris for the investment, urging beneficiaries to manage the buses responsibly to pave the way for further expansion of the scheme.
The Commissioner also charged drivers to uphold safety standards, warning against overloading, reckless driving, and poor maintenance.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the National Association of Transport Owners (Kebbi chapter), Ali Aliyu, applauded the state government for the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful.
Also speaking, the Deputy Corps Commandant (Operations) of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Kebbi, Musa Danladi, disclosed that the drivers had undergone thorough screening and testing, with strict instructions to comply with traffic regulations.
The rollout signals a new chapter for public transportation in Kebbi, as authorities move to deliver safer, more affordable travel options for residents.
