Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has unveiled plans to establish a massive ₦20 billion Danja Irrigation Scheme, in a major push to boost agricultural production, increase tomato output and improve the economic fortunes of farmers across the area.

The proposed irrigation project, which is expected to commence soon, is part of the Radda administration’s broader strategy to strengthen agriculture, create economic opportunities and improve livelihoods through year-round farming.

Governor Radda made the announcement during his engagement with traditional rulers and community leaders in Danja Local Government Area as part of activities surrounding the Tinubu–Dikko 2027 campaign rally.

He said the project would open new opportunities for farmers, particularly tomato producers, while stimulating commercial activities and improving household incomes.

According to the Governor, the irrigation scheme is expected to strengthen dry-season farming, increase agricultural productivity and position Danja as a stronger contributor to Katsina State’s agricultural economy.

Radda also highlighted his administration’s grassroots development initiative, disclosing that each of the state’s 361 wards receives ₦10 million under the Community Development Programme (CDP) to execute projects selected by residents.

He explained that the programme allows communities to determine their priority needs, with traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders participating in the selection and implementation process.

The Governor described his engagements with traditional institutions as important avenues for obtaining prayers, advice and guidance on policies and programmes capable of advancing the state.

He also expressed appreciation to the people of Danja for their warm reception and continued support for his administration.

He singled out the upgrading of Danja Comprehensive Health Centre to a General Hospital, describing the intervention as a significant step towards bringing quality healthcare services closer to residents.

He also praised the administration for road construction projects connecting communities, as well as initiatives aimed at supporting farmers and small-scale businesses.

The district head acknowledged the contributions of the local government chairman and other stakeholders to development in the area, while praying for the continued success of the Radda administration.

Similarly, the Chairman of Danja Local Government Area, Hon. Rabo Tambaya, welcomed the Governor and his entourage, expressing gratitude for the various development projects being executed across the state.

He reaffirmed the commitment of traditional rulers, community leaders and elders to supporting the government’s development agenda.

The Governor was accompanied by Deputy Governor, Malam Faruk Lawal; Director-General of the Tinubu–Dikko Campaign Council, Arch. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa; Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa; APC State Chairman, Dr. Bishir Gambo Saulawa; Hon. Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir; Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Turaji; alongside other government officials, campaign council members and political stakeholders.

The proposed ₦20 billion irrigation scheme is expected to add fresh momentum to agricultural development in Danja, with farmers looking forward to improved production, better incomes and expanded economic opportunities.
