KATSINA — The Katsina State Government has renewed its drive to strengthen traditional institutions, with Governor Dikko Umaru Radda declaring that restoring their prestige and authority is crucial to maintaining peace and tackling social challenges across the state.

Governor Radda made the declaration while receiving the first Dausayin Katsina and District Head of Dabai, Alhaji Gambo Abdullahi, alongside a delegation from Danja led by the Katsina State House of Assembly Leader, Alhaji Shamsuddeen Abubakar Dabai, during a courtesy visit to the Government House.

The governor described traditional rulers as critical partners in governance, noting that their influence remained indispensable in promoting peaceful coexistence, encouraging responsible behaviour and resolving problems within their communities.

Radda said his administration would continue to support measures aimed at restoring the dignity of traditional institutions and creating an environment where traditional rulers could effectively perform their responsibilities.

Danja Gets Irrigation Scheme Promise

Beyond traditional matters, the meeting also produced fresh development pledges for Danja Local Government Area, as Governor Radda disclosed plans to establish a large-scale irrigation scheme in the area.

He assured the delegation that the various requests presented by Engineer Yakubu Dabai would receive careful consideration, stressing the administration’s commitment to projects capable of improving the livelihoods of residents.

The governor also addressed the long-standing challenge of upgrading Comprehensive Health Care Centres across the state to General Hospitals.

According to him, shortage of qualified manpower in the health sector remains one of the major obstacles preventing the government from upgrading all the centres.

Despite the challenge, Radda gave Danja residents a fresh assurance that their Comprehensive Health Care Centre would be considered for elevation to General Hospital status.

Danja Leaders Applaud Radda

Earlier, the Chairman of Danja Local Government Area, Alhaji Rabo Tambaya, said the delegation’s visit was largely aimed at appreciating the governor for creating the Dabai District.

He noted that the creation of the district had paved the way for the appointment of Alhaji Gambo Abdullahi as the first Dausayin Katsina and District Head of Dabai.

Tambaya also commended the governor for various development projects executed in Danja, as well as his decision to appoint indigenes of the area to strategic positions within the state administration.

Similarly, the Sarkin Kudun Katsina and District Head of Danja, represented by the Sarkin Fulani Danja, thanked Governor Radda for creating the Dabai District.

He expressed optimism that the new administrative arrangement would open a new chapter of development and improve the fortunes of both Danja and Dabai districts.

The stakeholders said the strengthening of traditional institutions, coupled with increased government investment in infrastructure, agriculture and healthcare, would further accelerate development at the grassroots.
