The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested two suspected cattle thieves and recovered two cows allegedly stolen from Bagudo Local Government Area and taken to Bunza for sale.

The suspects, identified as Abubakar Wakili and Usman Danbello, were apprehended in Bunza Local Government Area following intelligence gathered from residents and community members who alerted the police to the suspicious movement of the animals.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

According to the police, preliminary investigations indicated that the two cows were allegedly stolen from Ganten Tudu in Bagudo LGA before being transported to Bunza Market, where they were reportedly intended for sale.

The quick intervention of the police, aided by information from members of the community, however, disrupted the alleged transaction and led to the arrest of the suspects.

The recovered cattle were subsequently presented to their rightful owner, who positively identified them as the animals allegedly stolen from him.

The Police Command said investigation was still ongoing to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the theft and determine whether other individuals were involved in the crime.

The suspects, it added, would be prosecuted in accordance with the law after the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Hadejia, commended residents for providing timely information that assisted the police in recovering the stolen animals.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to share credible information with the police and other security agencies, stressing that community cooperation remains crucial in the fight against criminal activities across the state.
