KATSINA — Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has declared that the state’s emerging advanced imaging centre will, upon completion, rank among the most sophisticated diagnostic facilities in Nigeria.
Radda said the facility was part of his administration’s broader drive to reposition Katsina’s healthcare system and reduce the need for residents to travel outside the state for specialised medical diagnosis and treatment.
The governor made the disclosure during the commissioning of the newly completed Charanchi General Hospital and the launch of ambulances and tricycle ambulances deployed to strengthen emergency and primary healthcare services across the state.
According to him, the government’s investment in the health sector goes beyond the construction and renovation of physical structures, stressing that modern equipment and specialised services remain critical to delivering quality healthcare.
He explained that his administration had upgraded several general hospitals, modernised operating theatres in health facilities and established a modern dialysis centre as part of efforts to expand access to specialist medical care.
Radda also revealed that the state government was implementing the solarisation of hospitals to ensure reliable electricity supply and improve the efficiency of healthcare facilities.
He added that plans were also underway to establish a pharmaceutical manufacturing centre in the state, which would support the local production of medicines and essential medical consumables.
The governor further highlighted the administration’s investment in human resources, saying more than 1,000 healthcare workers had been recruited into secondary healthcare facilities, while approximately 3,000 personnel had been employed across primary healthcare centres within the past three years.
Radda said the recruitment was designed to strengthen the workforce needed to sustain the government’s ongoing transformation of the health sector and ensure that residents receive quality services closer to their communities.
Earlier in his welcome address, Katsina State Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Musa Adamu, described the ongoing reforms in the health sector as a practical demonstration of the government’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery.
Adamu said the milestone represented more than the commissioning of a hospital and the deployment of ambulances, describing it as evidence of a sustained effort to make quality healthcare accessible to citizens across the state.
The event also featured goodwill messages from the General Manager of the Hospital Services Management Board, Dr. Naziru Shehu; Acting Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Agency, Dr. Shaimau Kabir; and Executive Secretary of the State Agency for Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System, Dr. Adamu Adamu.
The Chairman of Charanchi Local Government Area, Alhaji Ibrahim Sani Koda, was represented at the ceremony by his Vice Chairman, who also delivered a goodwill message.
The vote of thanks was delivered by the Sarkin Shanun Katsina and District Head of Charanchi, Alhaji Abashe Abdulkadir, who appreciated the state government for its continued attention to healthcare development in the area.
