KADUNA, NIGERIA — In a moment that symbolized ambition, transformation, and the promise of a brighter future, Franco-British International University (FBIU), Kaduna, formally welcomed 362 students into its academic community during its maiden matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The landmark event brought together parents, guardians, academics, policymakers, development partners, and distinguished guests from across Nigeria, all gathered to witness the official induction of the university’s pioneer cohort into an institution rapidly emerging as a beacon of academic excellence in Northern Nigeria, Nigeria and Africa.
As the newest member of the rapidly expanding MAAUN Group of Universities, FBIU matriculated students into four strategic schools: the School of Nursing Sciences, School of Health Sciences, School of Computing, and the School of Social and Management Sciences—disciplines considered critical to addressing Africa’s growing human capital and development needs.
Addressing the students, the President of FBIU, Prof. Abdullahi Sabo Muhammad, described the occasion as a defining chapter in both the lives of the students and the history of the university.
He congratulated the matriculating students and urged them to embrace the values of discipline, academic excellence, innovation, and leadership as they embark on their higher education journey.
“This ceremony marks the beginning of a transformative experience that will shape your future and prepare you to contribute meaningfully to society,” he said.
Zero Tolerance for Drug Abuse
One of the strongest messages of the day came from the Founder of the MAAUN Group of Universities, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, who used the occasion to reinforce the institution’s commitment to ethical conduct and character development.
Speaking to the students, Prof. Gwarzo warned against drug abuse, and other social vices, emphasizing that the university maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy toward activities capable of undermining academic excellence and personal growth.
He encouraged the students to remain focused on their studies while taking advantage of the opportunities provided by the institution.
“Our vision is not merely to produce graduates but to develop responsible leaders, innovators, and professionals who will contribute to the advancement of Nigeria, Africa, and the global community,” he stated.
In a significant announcement that underscored the university’s global aspirations, Prof. Gwarzo revealed plans to establish an Internationalisation Unit aimed at connecting students to international scholarships, academic exchange programmes, research collaborations, and global learning opportunities.
The initiative is expected to position FBIU students for greater competitiveness in an increasingly interconnected world.

Delivering his goodwill message, the Chancellor of FBIU, Senator Shehu Sani, reminded the students that academic success must be accompanied by integrity and good character.
He urged them to uphold the values of discipline, responsibility, and respect, noting that these qualities remain essential for both personal success and institutional reputation.
Other dignitaries, including the President of MAAUN Nigeria, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, the Registrar of MAAUN Niger and Nigeria, Dr. Shu’aibu Usman Tanko, and the representative of the Canadian University of Nigeria, Prof. Ahmed Maigari Ibrahim, described the matriculating students as fortunate beneficiaries of an educational ecosystem designed to meet international standards while responding to Africa’s development realities.
They encouraged the students to maximize the opportunities available to them and to become ambassadors of excellence wherever they go.
Also speaking at the event, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON), Dr. Baba Muhammad Yakubu, commended the university for developing academic programmes aligned with contemporary societal needs and global best practices.
The matriculation oath was administered by the Vice President Administration of FBIU, formally admitting the students into the university community.
