The Benue State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on those behind the killing of the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Benue State, Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed, with the arrest of seven additional suspects, including an 80-year-old man.
The latest arrests bring the total number of suspects in custody to 17, marking a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the July 1 killing of the MACBAN chairman and Yakubu Isa.
The victims were attacked and murdered while returning from a security meeting convened by the Divisional Police Officer in Ohimini Local Government Area.
Police said the fresh arrests were made following sustained intelligence gathering, painstaking investigations, and coordinated tactical operations across the state.
The newly arrested suspects are Chief Morgan Ejaga (43), Chief Moses Anteyi (45), Chief John Ogli (58), Chief Yawuhu Adaji (49), Sylvester Ajonye (80), Aba Alexander Uloko (59), and Fidelis Iduma (45).
The development follows the earlier arrest of 10 suspects linked to the high-profile case, as investigators continue to widen the dragnet in search of everyone connected to the killings.
Benue State Commissioner of Police, CP Cletus Nwadiogbu, commended officers handling the investigation for their professionalism and determination, assuring residents that the command would leave no stone unturned until all those responsible are brought to justice.
The police also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and continue supporting security agencies with credible information to aid the ongoing investigation.
