POLICE DISMANTLE KIDNAP SYNDICATE IN KATSINA, EX-GOVERNOR’S AIDE AMONG SUSPECTS AS SHOCKING DETAILS EMERGE

Borno State Government

In a major breakthrough against violent crime, Katsina State Police Command has dismantled a suspected kidnapping syndicate linked to the abduction of an 8-year-old boy in Katsina metropolis, arresting multiple suspects and recovering part of the ransom paid in the high-profile case.

Police authorities said the gang operated in a coordinated network, with clearly defined roles ranging from surveillance and abduction to negotiation and ransom collection.

Among those reportedly fingered in the unfolding investigation is Nura Aliyu Garwa, a former Senior Special Assistant on Community Development to the Katsina State Governor, who recently stepped down to pursue a legislative ambition in the Katsina State House of Assembly. His alleged connection to the syndicate has sent shockwaves across political and community circles, particularly in Batsari Local Government Area.

According to security sources, the arrested suspects are currently assisting investigators, while efforts are ongoing to track other members of the network believed to be at large.

The police operation reportedly led to the recovery of a portion of the ransom, further strengthening suspicions of an organized criminal enterprise behind the abduction.

The development has sparked intense public debate over alleged criminal infiltration into political and public service spaces, raising fresh concerns about vetting processes and accountability within the state’s political landscape.

Residents recall that the embattled figure was once known for a widely publicized act of loyalty, having trekked from Katsina to Kano in 2019 to congratulate then-Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje over his controversial electoral victory.

As investigations continue, authorities say more revelations are expected as the case unfolds.
