The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on crime, arresting suspects linked to a stolen tricycle syndicate and recovering suspected hard drugs, a toy firearm, and other exhibits during separate operations across the state.
The Command disclosed that operatives successfully recovered a stolen TVS tricycle and arrested two suspects following an intelligence-led investigation into a theft case reported in Afaha Itam, Itu Local Government Area.
According to the police, the owner reported that his tricycle, bearing registration number AFG 094 WZ, was stolen from his residence by unknown persons.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, police detectives launched investigations and deployed surveillance teams to strategic tricycle parks and loading points within and outside the area.
The operation led to the arrest of Dominic Edet, who was allegedly found in possession of the stolen vehicle. The tricycle was subsequently recovered.
Further investigations resulted in the arrest of another suspect, Asuquo Etim, who allegedly purchased the stolen tricycle from a suspect who remains at large.
Police said preliminary findings revealed that the tricycle was sold for ₦1.8 million, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
In a separate operation, officers carried out a coordinated raid on identified criminal hideouts at Ikot Ekwere Ubium Village as part of intensified stop-and-search and anti-crime operations ordered by the Commissioner of Police.
During the raid, operatives intercepted and searched a 21-year-old suspect, Idorenyin Akpan, leading to the recovery of several items believed to be connected to criminal activities.
Items recovered from the suspect included a wrap of Crystal Methamphetamine (Ice), a toy revolver pistol, a hammer, pliers, an animal horn, a clay pot containing fetish materials, a rubber container, and a bottle containing a liquid substance suspected to be used for ritual purposes.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, reaffirmed the Command’s determination to protect lives and property, dismantle criminal networks, and ensure that offenders face the full weight of the law.
He commended officers involved in the operations for their professionalism, vigilance, and dedication, noting that their efforts continue to yield positive results in the fight against crime.
The police boss also called on residents to support security agencies by providing credible and timely information, stressing that community partnership remains essential to maintaining peace and security across the state.
“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command remains resolute in denying criminals any safe haven within the state,” the statement said.
The Command assured members of the public that investigations into both cases are ongoing and that all suspects found culpable will be prosecuted accordingly.
