JOS — Troops of the Nigerian Army under Sector 1, Sub-Sector 12, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have intervened after a herder was allegedly attacked by youths in Waduru Community, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident, which occurred at about 7:50 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, left the herder, identified as Muazu Ahmed Abdullahi, injured.
According to security sources, Abdullahi was grazing his livestock in the area when he was allegedly assaulted by a group of youths.
The troops reportedly moved swiftly to the community after receiving a distress call about the incident. However, the suspected attackers fled the scene as soon as they noticed the arrival of the security personnel.
The soldiers found Abdullahi suffering from injuries sustained during the attack and immediately evacuated him to Kum Hospital, Latya, where he was taken for medical treatment.
Security personnel have since commenced efforts to identify the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.
The intervention underscores the continued efforts by security forces under Operation Enduring Peace to respond promptly to threats, prevent escalation of local disputes and promote peaceful coexistence among communities in Plateau State.
Authorities are expected to intensify surveillance in the area to forestall any possible reprisal attack or further tension following the incident.
