PANTAMI REBELS: Rejects Gombe APC ‘Coronation,’ Alleges Illegality

Borno State Government

A fresh crack has emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State as former minister Isa Ali Pantami openly rejected the party’s consensus arrangement for elective positions, branding it a “coronation” that sidelines inclusivity and violates legal provisions.

Pantami, a leading governorship aspirant, made his stance known through a statement issued by Suleiman Mohammed on behalf of his supporters under the Pantamiyya Movement, signaling growing resistance to the party’s internal selection process.

According to the statement, the consensus model fails to reflect democratic principles and risks alienating stakeholders who expect a transparent and competitive process. The camp warned that imposing candidates without broad consultation could deepen divisions within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

The development adds to rising tensions within the APC in Gombe, where differing interests are beginning to clash over control of the party structure and the direction of its political strategy.

Observers say Pantami’s rejection may trigger wider debate over internal democracy in the party, as aspirants and stakeholders weigh the balance between consensus-building and open competition.

As the situation unfolds, party leaders may face mounting pressure to revisit the arrangement or risk further fragmentation within their ranks.
