Osun Poll Will Shape 2027 Battle, Says Jide Ojo

Borno State Government

Public affairs analyst Jide Ojo has described the forthcoming Osun State governorship election as a decisive political showdown that could set the tone for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

Speaking during Good Morning Nigeria on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Ojo argued that the outcome of the Osun poll would offer a strong indication of the strength, strategy and public appeal of the country’s major political parties ahead of the next nationwide elections.

According to him, despite the long list of candidates in the race, the contest is essentially a straight fight between incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and former governor, Adegboyega Oyetola.

Ojo described the election as a “two-horse race,” saying both leading contenders possess the political structure and influence needed to determine the outcome, while other candidates are expected to play only marginal roles.

The analyst noted that political stakeholders across the country are closely watching the Osun governorship election, believing its result could reshape alliances, boost party morale and influence campaign strategies as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.

With national attention fixed on the South-West state, the Osun governorship poll is increasingly being viewed as more than a state election—it is emerging as one of the first major political litmus tests on the road to 2027.
