Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) has assured residents of the North-East of a safe and peaceful Eid El Kabir celebration, even as it warned of possible attacks by remnants of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists during the festive period.
In a security advisory issued on Monday, the Theatre Command disclosed that intelligence reports indicated plans by insurgents to target crowded locations with suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
To counter the threat, the military said troops had already been forward-deployed to vulnerable areas across the region, while surveillance operations, patrols and intelligence monitoring had been intensified ahead of the Wednesday, May 28 Eid celebrations.
The Command also confirmed close collaboration with sister security agencies, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local vigilance groups to ensure maximum security during the festivities.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary night movement, stay away from crowded gatherings where possible, and promptly report suspicious persons or objects to security agencies.
OPHK further appealed to traditional rulers, clerics, media organisations and community leaders to support ongoing security efforts through public sensitisation and timely sharing of credible intelligence.
Reassuring the public, the Theatre Command declared that troops remain fully prepared and determined to deny terrorists any opportunity to disrupt the celebrations.
