NUJ Expresses Shock Over Fire Outbreak at Gombe Media Corporation

The President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya Abdullahi, has sympathised with the management and staff of the Gombe Media Corporation, GMC, over the fire incident that destroyed the building housing the corporation’s television studios.

Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, who was in Lagos when the incident occurred on Saturday, constituted a delegation led by the NUJ Zonal Vice President, Zone E, Comrade Zare Baba, to visit the corporation and convey his sympathy.

The NUJ President said he received the news of the fire incident with deep shock, particularly considering the number of facilities and equipment lost to the inferno.

He expressed confidence that with the commitment of the Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the affected structure would be renovated and the damaged equipment replaced.

Comrade Alhassan Yahaya also commended the governor for providing modern broadcasting equipment that enabled the digitalization of the two state-owned broadcast stations.

He said journalists, particularly practitioners in Gombe State, would continue to remember the governor for his support to the media sector.

The NUJ President also appealed to the governor to facilitate the completion of the NUJ Secretariat in Gombe and hand it over to journalists before the end of his tenure.

Responding on behalf of the Director-General of the Gombe Media Corporation, Dr. Ibrahim Isa, Director Marketing Alhaji Ahmad Muhammad Ibrahim thanked the NUJ President for the gesture and commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his sustained support to the corporation.
