The Bauchi state government has solicited for the release of party supporters whom, it said, were arrested during the Saturday Bye-elections in Sakwa state constituency, the exercise of which was conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Auwal Mohammed Jatau who tendered the passionate appeal during the exercise at the Fuchikwu village primary school polling units, said, “I was briefly informed that some men in uniform arrested some of our supporters without any violation of the rights of citizens, neither do they violate the right of the state”.
Addressing the press at the polling unit during polls exercise, the Deputy Governor said he was informed that three people were arrested during the elections, stressing that certain security operatives were sent to arrest and intimidate their people.
Rt. Hon. Auwal Mohammed Jatau frowned, “I was made to believe that there are certain security agencies that were sent to come and arrest and intimidate our people, we would not tolerate that and we would not condone that”
According to him, they have prior to the commencement of the exercise, informed their people that they should not connive with anybody to rig the election for them, and neither shall they allow anybody to connive with anyone from wherever he/She comes from to rig them out.
The Deputy Governor therefore warned that the arrested three be immediately release because, as he puts it, “There is nothing incriminating found on them, the three that were arrested in Sakwa state constituency of Sakwa ward in Zaki local Government Area of the state.
