KATSINA — The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Katsina State Command, has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that a serving Deputy Commandant of the Corps, Sani Lawal, was convicted by a Katsina State High Court for employment fraud.
The Command, in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, described the reports as inaccurate and misleading, insisting that they did not represent the true circumstances surrounding the case.
According to the NSCDC, Lawal had already exited the service on the grounds of age before the court convicted him of employment fraud.
The clarification was contained in a statement signed electronically by the Command’s Civil Defence Public Relations Officer, SC Buhari Hamisu, on behalf of the State Commandant.
The Command expressed concern over what it described as the deliberate distortion of facts, warning that the spread of unverified information could create unnecessary public anxiety and erode confidence in security institutions.
While distancing the Corps from the alleged misconduct, the NSCDC reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward criminal activities among its personnel, stressing that officers are expected to uphold the law and maintain the highest standards of integrity.
The Command also reaffirmed its commitment to its statutory responsibilities, particularly the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure and the maintenance of national security.
Beyond the controversy, the NSCDC used the opportunity to issue a fresh warning to job seekers against falling victim to employment fraudsters.
The Command urged members of the public to be vigilant over the activities of recruitment racketeers who prey on unsuspecting applicants by promising them jobs in exchange for money.
It advised prospective applicants to rely only on official recruitment channels and avoid handing over their hard-earned money to individuals claiming to have influence over recruitment processes.
The NSCDC further appealed to the public to verify information before sharing it on social media, stressing that inaccurate reports about security agencies could have serious consequences for public confidence and institutional credibility.
The Command said it would continue to uphold professionalism, accountability and its mandate to protect lives, property and critical national infrastructure across Katsina State.
