“We cannot declare strike now because the figures are with the President,” Ajaero stated.

Highlighting past efforts, he recalled, “During the tenure of the immediate past President, the figure proposed by the tripartite committee was N27,000, but it was increased to N30,000.

We are hopeful this President will do the right thing.

”Ajaero emphasized the significant gap between the proposed N62,000 and N250,000 minimum wage, questioning governors’ resistance: “How can any governor say he cannot pay? They cannot also be calling for the decentralization of the minimum wage.

”Criticizing governors with low internally generated revenue, Ajaero argued, “Governors whose states are not contributing a dime to the national purse and who generate pitiable Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) are collecting the same amount as governors whose states are generating billions.

”Praising Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, who pays a N70,000 minimum wage, Ajaero said, “This is the type of governor that should be emulated, not the lazy ones.

”The NLC remains hopeful that the President will act justly regarding the new minimum wage, urging for patience and unity in the labor movement.
