The Niger State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES), has commended the Gombe State Government for its strategic interventions aimed at transforming the livestock sector.
The Niger State L-PRES Coordinator, Jiya Danladi Mohammed, gave the commendation during a study tour of major L-PRES projects in Gombe State.
The delegation inspected the Agro-Livestock Development Zone and the Artificial Insemination and Breed Multiplication Centre at Gombe State University, Mallam Sidi.
Mr. Jiya Danladi said the visit was aimed at learning from Gombe’s experience and identifying successful projects that could be replicated in Niger State.
He described what he saw as impressive, particularly the Agro-Livestock Development Zone, which brings together different components of the livestock value chain.
According to him, the model provides a structured system where livestock production, processing and marketing can operate within the same environment.
The Niger L-PRES Coordinator also singled out the Artificial Insemination Centre for commendation.
He said the facility has prompted Niger State to reconsider the location and design of its proposed AI centre, with plans to explore a similar model by situating the facility within an academic institution.
He therefore urged L-PRES coordinators across the country to visit Gombe and learn from its experience.
Responding, the Gombe State L-PRES Coordinator, Professor Usman Bello Abubakar, said the study tour followed a recommendation by the World Bank, which identified Gombe as a strategic learning destination for Niger State.
Professor Abubakar attributed Gombe’s progress to the vision and commitment of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, while stressing the importance of sharing knowledge and best practices among states implementing L-PRES.
He assured the visiting delegation of Gombe’s continued support and collaboration in efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s livestock sector.
The delegation also visited the Gombe Emir’s Royal Farm, where it observed various livestock breeds and husbandry practices.
