The National Economic Council Implementation Monitoring Committee (NEC-IMC) has arrived in Katsina State to assess the progress and impact of major development projects and the implementation of key resolutions across the state.
The monitoring team, led by Mr Daniel Ikara of the NEC Secretariat, paid a courtesy visit to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda at the Katsina State Government House as part of its ongoing assessment.
The delegation was received on behalf of the state by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mallam Malik Anas.
Welcoming the team, Governor Radda said the four-day monitoring exercise might not be sufficient to fully capture the scale of projects being implemented across the state.
He explained that the field visits would give the committee an opportunity to inspect major projects firsthand and evaluate how such interventions are improving the lives of residents.
According to the governor, many of the achievements recorded by his administration have been made possible through the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Radda listed agriculture, healthcare, education, security, road infrastructure and grassroots development among the sectors where his administration has recorded significant progress.
He also highlighted the establishment of Community Development Projects (CDP) aimed at accelerating development at the grassroots, as well as the Katsina State Enterprise Development Agency (KASEEDA), established to strengthen support for businesses and entrepreneurs.
On renewable energy, the governor disclosed that his administration had revitalised the Lambar Rimi Wind Farm while complementing the existing 10-megawatt wind facility with an additional 10MW solar power plant.
He said the combination of renewable energy sources would contribute to the state’s efforts to expand access to reliable electricity and promote economic activities.
Governor Radda welcomed the NEC monitoring exercise, describing it as an opportunity to deepen collaboration between the Federal and state governments.
He added that the assessment would also help identify areas where additional intervention or attention was required to ensure that government projects deliver maximum benefits to citizens.
Earlier, Ikara said the committee’s visit was primarily aimed at assessing the implementation of NEC resolutions, flagship projects and their actual impact on communities.
He disclosed that members of the team had already visited some project sites and expressed satisfaction with the level of development witnessed so far.
Ikara specifically commended the state’s agricultural mechanisation initiatives and other development programmes inspected by the team.
He said the exercise was not merely an inspection tour but also an avenue to strengthen communication and cooperation between the Federal Government and the states.
The Katsina visit forms part of the fifth phase of the NEC-IMC monitoring exercise, which covers states across the country as well as the Federal Capital Territory.
The committee is expected to continue its field assessments in Katsina during its stay, focusing on the implementation, effectiveness and socio-economic impact of selected government interventions.
