The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN), has applauded Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, for investing heavily in legal education, revealing that the governor has sponsored more than 700 Yobe indigenes to study law in universities and the Nigerian Law School.
Osigwe gave the commendation on Monday during a courtesy visit to Governor Buni at the Government House, Damaturu, describing the initiative as a remarkable commitment to human capital development and access to justice.
According to a statement issued by the Governor’s Director-General of Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Muhammad, the NBA President said the governor’s investment in legal education stands out as one of the most impactful educational interventions in the state.
“Available records indicate that you have sponsored over 700 law students. That is indeed a commendable effort,” Osigwe said.
He also praised the Buni administration for sustaining development across key sectors despite years of security challenges, noting that the state has remained focused on rebuilding and improving the lives of its citizens.
Responding, Governor Buni reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the rule of law and supporting institutions that promote justice, peace and security.
“The judiciary is the last hope of the common man. Government will continue to support every institution that advances justice, peace and security in Yobe State,” the governor said.
Buni also expressed appreciation to the NBA President for identifying with legal practitioners in the state, saying the visit had given the Yobe Bar a stronger sense of belonging within the national legal community.
“Your visit today gives us a true sense of belonging, and I sincerely appreciate it,” he added.
Also speaking, Chairman of the NBA Yobe State Branch, Barrister Khaliel, lauded Governor Buni for ensuring that financial hardship does not prevent young people from pursuing legal education, describing the scholarship programme as a life-changing investment in the state’s future.
The visit highlighted the growing partnership between the Yobe State Government and the legal profession in advancing justice, education and institutional development.
