The National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) have thrown their weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda for the 2027 elections.
The endorsement was made in Katsina when national and state executives of the two transport unions, alongside representatives from the seven North-West states, converged on the Gwagware Foundation for the event.
The unions said their decision was largely influenced by what they described as the infrastructure and transportation achievements recorded by the Tinubu and Radda administrations.
Receiving the transport workers and operators, Governor Radda described the endorsement as an indication of the impact of ongoing road and transport development projects being undertaken by both the federal and state governments.
Radda said the support reflected the confidence of transport stakeholders in government efforts to improve road networks, urban infrastructure and connectivity across Katsina State.
He said his administration would sustain its investment in road construction, urban renewal and other projects aimed at opening up cities and local government areas while making movement of people and goods easier.
The governor also assured the unions that their requests for vehicles and access to soft financing would receive government attention, promising continued engagement with transport operators.
Earlier, the Deputy National President of NARTO, Prince Ganiyu Atanda Salami, who represented the union’s National President, Alhaji Lawal Yusuf Othman, said the endorsement was based on the perceived performance of President Tinubu and Governor Radda in the areas of infrastructure and transportation.
Salami commended the road projects executed across Katsina metropolis and other local government areas, while appealing to the state government to provide soft loans that would enable transport operators to renew and expand their fleets.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Engr. Sani Magaji Ingawa, said the endorsement demonstrated the growing recognition of government policies and projects by key stakeholders in the transport sector.
Ingawa listed road construction, dualisation, rehabilitation and urban renewal among the major projects undertaken across the state.
He added that the government had also invested in modern buses for the Katsina State Transport Authority (KTSTA), workshops, bus stops and transport terminals as part of efforts to modernise the state’s transportation system.
The NURTW Chairman for Katsina State and the Northern Region, Alhaji Musa Garba Yandoma, said the gathering was organised to formally endorse Tinubu and Radda while acknowledging the governor’s achievements in the state.
As part of the ceremony, the transport unions presented Governor Radda with an Award of Recognition for his contributions to infrastructure and transportation development.
The event attracted the Deputy Governor, Hon. Faruk Lawal Jobe; businessman Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal; NARTO and NURTW leaders from the seven North-West states; government officials; members of the National and State Assemblies; local government chairmen; traditional and community leaders; and other stakeholders in the transport sector.
