MUTUAL COLLABORATION A PREREQUISITE TO REGIONAL SECURITY…GOC 7 Division

The Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) Brigadier General Abubakar Haruna has assured the Accra Initiative of mutual collaboration which he describes as a prerequisite to regional security and coexistence.

Brigadier General Haruna stated this on Thursday, 28 March 2024, when he played host to the Accra Initiative from Ghana and the Nigerian Fusion Cell on Dialogue and Peace Processes who were on a study visit to the Division’s Headquarters at Maimalari Military Cantonment, Maiduguri.

The teams were led by the Executive Secretary Mr Benedict Dere and the Coordinator Honourable Aliyu Ibrahim Gibe.

Stating the purpose of the visit, the Executive Secretary Mr Benedict said the “Accra Initiative has the mandate to prevent the spillover of terrorism from the Sahel and to address transnational organized crimes and violent extremism in member countries’ border areas”.

He therefore disclosed that the team is on a visit to understudy the Nigerian non-kinetic approach and efforts in the fight against insurgency which has yielded tremendous successes in recent times to replicate the same approach.

The GOC remarked that the mandate of the Accra Initiative in enhancing regional security and stemming the spillover of insurgency is a welcome development, and the Nigerian Army in the Theatre of OPHK is ready to collaborate on all fronts with the team towards having a sustainable secured border within the Sahel countries.

“As a Division and the largest sector in OPHK, we will continue to do our best with an open door to share our experiences and broaden acquaintances of the entire structure and strategy of the Accra initiative while connecting it with the Nigerian nonkinectic efforts he added.
