Tension boiled over into deadly violence in Plateau State as an enraged mob reportedly lynched and set ablaze three young men accused of murdering a traditional ruler in Langtang North Local Government Area.
The victims, said to be indigenes of the community, were allegedly linked to the brutal killing of the traditional head of Kwallak, Mr. Ponzhi Kwallak, who was attacked and shot dead in his residence late Thursday night.
Initial fears had pointed to external attackers, with suspicions of bandit involvement. But the narrative took a shocking twist when evidence began to suggest that the crime may have been carried out by insiders.
According to sources, the suspects were apprehended on Friday while attempting to sell a motorcycle believed to have been stolen from the slain monarch. Eyewitnesses claimed the trio confessed to the crime after their arrest.
However, before they could be handed over to security authorities, an angry crowd reportedly intercepted them near the Langtang North Local Government Council Secretariat. In a swift and brutal act of mob justice, the suspects were beaten and set on fire.
The gruesome incident has left the community shaken, highlighting rising tensions and the dangers of jungle justice amid grief and outrage.
The late monarch was said to have only recently acquired the motorcycle that ultimately led to the suspects’ undoing.
