Leaders of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Association in the North-East Zone have called on their members to remain law-abiding and promote peaceful coexistence with other communities.
The call was made during a zonal meeting held in Gombe, where issues affecting pastoralists, peace and security, and the development of the livestock sector were discussed.
Welcoming the delegates, the Gombe State Chairman of the Association, Alhaji Ardo Chindo Abubakar, appreciated the leadership for choosing Gombe to host the meeting.
He highlighted efforts by the Gombe State Government to improve the welfare and economic activities of herders in the state.
According to him, the government has constituted a committee to open up cattle routes and grazing reserves, as well as provide water facilities for livestock.
He also mentioned the establishment of an international cattle market in Gombe, describing the initiative as a major boost to livestock production and trade.
Speaking at the meeting, the North-East Zonal Chairman of the Association, Alhaji Nasiru Liman Jalbu, and the Borno State Chairman, Alhaji Musa Maina Harande, commended the people of Gombe for the warm reception accorded them.
The meeting also discussed the detention of the Association’s National President, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo, who, according to the leaders, had spent more than three months in detention.
The leaders appealed to state governors and traditional rulers to intervene and facilitate his release.
They said Bodejo had contributed significantly to peacebuilding efforts and had played an important role in facilitating the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The delegation later visited the Gombe State Commissioner for Livestock Development, Alhaji Salihu Baba Alkali, in his office.
The Commissioner commended the Association for its contribution to the development of the livestock sector and the national economy.
He assured the delegation that the ministry would echo their call for the release of their National President, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo.
The meeting ended with renewed calls for peaceful coexistence, responsible pastoralism and compliance with the laws governing livestock activities in the North-East.
