…….Urges Airlines to Serve Nigerian DISHES.

In an exciting update for airliners, the Nigerian government has announced the upgrade of the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport in Maiduguri, Borno State, set to commence international operations on January 1, 2025.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has called on foreign airlines to seize the opportunity and harness the growing market potential in the region.
This announcement comes as part of a broader effort to boost Nigeria’s aviation sector and improve international connectivity.
During a meeting with Lufthansa Group representatives at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, Keyamo stressed the importance of promoting Nigeria’s cultural heritage and economic growth by urging foreign airlines to patronize local caterers for onboard meals. He emphasized that serving Nigerian dishes on flights would not only promote the country’s cuisine but also support local businesses.
Keyamo also highlighted concerns about the outdated aircraft used by some foreign airlines for Nigerian routes, urging airlines to ensure that all aircraft operating in and out of Nigeria are in good condition. He noted that Nigeria deserves the same modern aircraft that airlines use in other countries.
The Minister commended Lufthansa for its long-standing services in the Nigerian aviation sector and welcomed the airline’s commitment to serving Nigerian dishes onboard its flights. He reiterated the government’s focus on improving ease of doing business in the aviation industry, fostering stronger partnerships between Nigeria and international carriers.
Rene Koinzack, Senior Director of Sales for Southern and East Africa, Nigeria, and Equatorial Guinea at Lufthansa, praised President Bola Tinubu and Keyamo for the transformative changes in Nigeria’s airports. He assured that Lufthansa would continue to support the growth of Nigeria’s aviation industry and deliver top-quality service to passengers.
As Nigeria prepares for the international launch of the Muhammadu Buhari Airport Maiduguri, the aviation sector looks set for a promising future, with new opportunities for global partnerships and enhanced services for passengers.
