The Borno State Police Command, led by CP Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, has made significant strides in the fight against crime in Maiduguri. The Command has successfully apprehended high-profile suspects involved in car theft and recovered six stolen vehicles.
State police spokesperson, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso announced this achievements during a press conference at the crack decision of the Borno state police command.
The suspects, Mari Paul (39) and Modu Ishaku (39), were apprehended following a report by Musa Abubakar on September 9, 2024, stating that his Toyota Corolla had been stolen from his residence. The Police Crack Squad acted swiftly upon receiving the complaint, leading to the arrest of Mari Paul and the recovery of the stolen vehicle.
Further investigation revealed Mari Paul’s involvement in car theft and his sale of the stolen vehicle to Modu Ishaku. The Police Crack Squad recovered a total of six stolen vehicles, taken from various locations in Maiduguri. Both suspects have confessed to their crimes and will face prosecution in court.
In a separate incident, the crack squad also arrested two suspected high-profile thieves involved in snatching valuables, including mobile phones, which pose a serious security threat to the state. Saleh Muhammed and Adamu Muhammed were apprehended after Luka Mora reported that they had snatched his Infinix Smart 7 phone and cash amounting to N143,410 while in a keke napep at Bulumkutu area, Maiduguri on October 2, 2024.
Investigations revealed the suspects’ modus operandi of targeting commuters in isolated areas, distracting them, and swiftly snatching their belongings. Saleh Muhammed and Adamu Muhammed have confessed to the crime and will also be prosecuted.
ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso emphasized the Command’s unwavering commitment to eliminating criminal activities and ensuring public safety and security. He issued a stern warning to criminals to cease their illegal activities or face the consequences of the law.
