The campaign council of Malam Lawal Musa Daura (LMD) has dismissed reports suggesting that the former governorship aspirant has accepted a nomination to contest for the Daura Senatorial District seat, describing the claims as false, misleading, and lacking any factual basis.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the council urged supporters, members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the general public to disregard the speculation, insisting that Lawal Musa Daura has neither accepted nor endorsed any senatorial arrangement.
The clarification comes amid growing political discussions following the outcome of the ADC governorship contest in Katsina State and ongoing consultations among party stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to the statement, signed by Sani Ibrahim Dabai, Director of Media and Publicity of the LMD Campaign Council, only official communications from the campaign should be regarded as authentic.
The council used the opportunity to reiterate its reservations over the emergence of the ADC governorship candidate in Katsina State, alleging that the process was influenced by certain national leaders and stakeholders of the party.
It argued that the development has continued to generate dissatisfaction among supporters and party members across the state who had expected a transparent and competitive primary election.
The statement further claimed that the process through which the candidate emerged did not fully align with established party guidelines and failed to reflect the principles of internal democracy, fairness, transparency, and inclusiveness.
According to the council, these concerns remain at the centre of ongoing consultations being undertaken by Lawal Musa Daura and his political associates.
Despite the controversy, the LMD Campaign Council said its principal was carefully studying developments within the party and would make his position known after extensive consultations and a thorough review of all relevant issues.
“We wish to assure our supporters and the people of Katsina State that Malam Lawal Musa Daura remains committed to acting in the collective interest of the people and will communicate his position at the appropriate time,” the statement noted.
The council also expressed gratitude to supporters across Katsina State and beyond for their loyalty, encouragement, and continued confidence in the former aspirant.
It appealed to supporters to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding while consultations continue, stressing that any future decision would be guided by the pursuit of justice, fairness, and democratic principles.
Political observers say the statement is likely to fuel further debate within the ADC in Katsina State, where discussions over the party’s governorship primary and future political direction continue to dominate conversations ahead of the 2027 elections.
For now, the LMD Campaign Council has drawn a clear line: Lawal Musa Daura is not in the race for the Daura Senate seat, and his next political move remains under consultation.
