BIRNIN KEBBI — Governor Nasir Idris has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining Kebbi State’s annual mass wedding programme after 300 couples were joined in matrimony during the third edition of the initiative in Birnin Kebbi.
Speaking at the colourful ceremony held at the Haliru Abdu Stadium on Monday, the governor described the programme as a landmark social intervention that promotes family values, strengthens communities and provides hope for less privileged citizens seeking to build stable homes.
Idris pledged that the initiative, pioneered by his wife, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris, would remain an annual event throughout his tenure, saying it reflects the administration’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and upholding Islamic principles.
The governor praised the First Lady for conceiving and sustaining the programme through the NANA’S Foundation, describing her as a compassionate leader dedicated to improving the lives of women, widows, orphans and other vulnerable members of society.
He also assured that his government would continue to support the foundation’s humanitarian programmes aimed at improving the welfare of citizens across the state.
Congratulating the newly married couples, Idris urged them to build their families on the pillars of love, patience, mutual respect and understanding in line with Islamic teachings. He prayed for lasting peace, prosperity and happiness in their marriages.
Earlier, Chairman of the Organising Committee, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, said the mass wedding programme, organised by the NANA’S Foundation with the support of the Kebbi State Government through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, has continued to grow in impact since its inception.
Argungu noted that the initiative has become a model for promoting responsible marriage, family stability and social harmony across the state.
In her remarks, the founder of the NANA’S Foundation and wife of the governor, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris, thanked Almighty Allah for the successful hosting of the third edition of the programme.
She urged the 300 couples to live in peace, remain faithful to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), fulfil their marital responsibilities and preserve the sanctity of marriage.
The First Lady also expressed appreciation to Governor Idris for his unwavering support, while thanking members of the organising committee, donors and other stakeholders whose contributions ensured the success of the event.
She reiterated that the mass wedding initiative was established to encourage marriage in accordance with Islamic values, strengthen family institutions and foster peaceful communities across Kebbi State.
