Kebbi Unleashes ₦4bn+ Spending Surge for Hospitals, Roads, Power Projects

Borno State Government

The Kebbi State Government has rolled out a massive funding package exceeding ₦4 billion, igniting a fresh wave of infrastructure and social development projects across the state.

Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, announced the approvals at a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi, describing the move as a bold step by Governor Nasir’s administration to fast-track transformation and improve citizens’ quality of life.

Top on the list is the health sector, where ₦926.3 million has been committed to overhaul the Martha Bamaiyi General Hospital in Zuru, long plagued by poor conditions. In addition, ₦1.7 billion has been earmarked for the rehabilitation of 21 Primary Health Centres, with work already underway statewide.

In agriculture and rural development, the government is injecting ₦2 billion as counterpart funding for the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) Scale-Up, alongside ₦1 billion to kick-start the Kebbi State Rural Access Roads Agency (RARA). Officials say the move keeps the state aligned with international partners backing the initiative with nearly $1 billion.

Kebbi has also secured a spot among 28 states qualified for the World Bank-backed Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria (SPIN) project, releasing ₦500 million as counterpart funding to boost food security, dam safety, and job creation.

Meanwhile, nearly ₦975 million has been approved to electrify the Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu Housing Estate in Birnin Kebbi, a project expected to enhance security and stimulate economic activities.

Authorities say the sweeping investments mark a decisive push to close infrastructure gaps and accelerate economic growth across Kebbi State.
