The Kebbi State Government has rolled out an ambitious urban renewal drive worth over N7 billion, pledging to transform major towns while enforcing strict environmental discipline across the state.
Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Hayatudeen Ahmad Bawa, made the disclosure in Birnin Kebbi, outlining sweeping interventions aimed at modernizing infrastructure and boosting economic activity.
According to Bawa, the massive investment is already powering the installation of solar streetlights across strategic locations, including Birnin Kebbi, Zuru, Yauri, Argungu, and Bunza.
He said the lighting project has significantly improved security, energized nightlife commerce, and enhanced the visual appeal of urban centres.
In addition, the government is upgrading and expanding key township roads, redesigning major roundabouts, and constructing a new city gate at Kofa Sabuwa—moves expected to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity.
On environmental management, the commissioner revealed intensified efforts to combat flooding through aggressive drainage clearing, evacuation, and expansion at critical points across the state.
The government is also deploying modern LCD screens at strategic locations within the العاصمة to improve communication, providing residents with real-time updates on policies and programmes.
Earlier, Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed, said the inter-ministerial briefing underscores the administration’s commitment to transparency and public engagement.
He urged the media to sustain support in disseminating accurate information, noting that the platform allows ministries to present their achievements while deepening public understanding of government initiatives.
With billions already committed and projects underway, Kebbi’s urban facelift signals a bold push to position the state as a model of modern infrastructure, environmental order, and economic vitality.
