Kebbi Police Take Anti-Thuggery Campaign to Streets, Clash With Youth Team in Novelty Match

Borno State Government

BIRNIN KEBBI — The Kebbi State Police Command has taken its fight against youth involvement in political and digital thuggery to communities and the streets, urging young people to reject manipulation and embrace choices that will secure their future.

The campaign, tagged “My Future Is Greater Than Political and Digital Thuggery,” is being implemented as part of activities marking International Youth Week 2026 across the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Birnin Kebbi, explaining that the initiative is designed to sensitise youths to the dangers of political violence, online incitement and manipulation.

According to him, the campaign is also aimed at promoting peace, responsible citizenship and constructive youth participation in community development.

He said the initiative would be sustained across Kebbi State through lectures and sensitisation programmes organised by the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) in collaboration with community leaders and youth organisations.

As part of the concluding activities, the Command organised a novelty football match between police officers and a youth team in Birnin Kebbi.

Beyond the sporting contest, the match provided an opportunity for police officers and young people to interact in a relaxed atmosphere, strengthening trust and building a healthier relationship between both groups.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Hadejia, commended the youths for their enthusiasm and urged them to remain focused on building a peaceful and prosperous future.

Hadejia cautioned young people against allowing themselves to be used as tools for violence, political manipulation or harmful digital activities, stressing that their energy and talents should be channelled towards productive ventures.

He assured that the Command would continue to foster stronger Police-youth relations while creating opportunities to harness the potential of young people for the peace, security and development of Kebbi State.
